My FTC Disclosure
In short: I earn referral fees if you purchase hosting services from some of the sites I recommend here.
Referral Fees? Sounds Shady…
It’s not!
In the world of business this is known as affiliate marketing. You can read more about it here.
Affiliate marketing is a huge industry. In fact, most companies nowadays have what they call an “affiliate program” where they reward people for sending them new customers, including giants like eBay and Amazon.
So, it is likely that most of your favorite websites do make money from affiliate marketing. But the problem is that some of them “forget” to tell you that, even though it’s not honest, not to mention it is required by the Federal Trade Commission.
I created Host Dispatch as an honest source for those looking for real and honest web host reviews. Which is why on this page I am giving you a full disclosure of how this site makes money (or at least I hope it starts making money soon).
The Way it Works is Rather Simple…
As an affiliate, I will get a special link from the company I am going to recommend. I put that link (can be a text link or a banner ad) on my site. You decide to buy the product I am promoting and click on that link.
Once you arrive at the said company’s website, you are tagged with a special cookie which tells the company I am the one who sent you. And if you buy something from the company, I get a commission.
The amount of commission depends on the company and their products. For example, GoDaddy may pay me $2 while BlueHost may give me $60.
Will It Cost Me More?
No, never! In fact, my deals will help you save money.
It’s because most of the time affiliates work out a deal with these companies and get special coupons and promo codes that only their website visitors can use to get better deals on hosting. Web hosts are always looking for new customers which is why they offer their affiliate (me and others) special coupons and discount codes to share with our readers.
New customers have to come from somewhere. Many of these hosting providers would rather pay affiliates like me instead of spending hundreds and thousands of dollars on fancy print ads, billboards, TV ads, or regular sales people.
So, this thing helps both of us – I earn a few bucks to help with the expenses of running and maintaining this site, while you get a discount for what you were going to purchase anyway. Moreover, you find a reliable host by reading my honest reviews.
Last Words
I review these providers and their services based on my actual experience hosting my many websites, and not based on how much referral commission they pay. If I use a host and end up not liking their service, I will spill the beans. And if I use one that turns out to be great, I will recommend it to you (with an affiliate link of course. 🙂 ).
